The Plates on your unit are made to be adjustable and may be adjusted at any time.
To start make sure the unit is off and the plates are cool, bring the plates together tight. The unit can be adjusted by laying the unit on its back and loosening the four ¼-20 stainless Allen screws on the underside of the unit. To complete this you will need a 5/32 hex tool. Don’t remove them just loosen them. Then stand the unit back up and drop the plates to may 1/32 of the gap between plates, you can then move the ram by gently pulling the release handle towards you, also you can reach in through the vertical handle opening to help move. Once the bottom plate is directly centered over the top plate and your rear spring plate is not touching the frame you can raise the plates and apply pressure to hold it in place while you lay the unit on its back again and tighten the 4 bottom bolts. That should get your alignment perfect.
